RC RTF – Tips for beginners

Posted by admin

When you are first starting out with the whole RC Aircraft thing, it is important that you remember that you are a beginner. That being said there are a few things that you need to keep in mind when you are both purchasing and using any sort of RC plane. So what exactly are those considerations? Let’s look at a few of them.

First off you’re probably going to want to make sure that you purchase an RC RTF plane, which stands for Radio Controlled Ready to Fly. These are very much in contrast to an RC ARF plane which stands for Almost Ready to Fly. The ARF planes need to be assembled and painted, and most of the time you will be responsible for both installing as well as choosing the type of motor that you want. Electric or gas, that choice is completely up to you. It is recommended that all beginners go with an electric motor because they are much easier to control than a gas powered one.

On that note, you must always make sure that you choose a plane that is easy to fly. Yes, when you go to the store there are going to be all kinds of RC RTF planes there and you need to choose the one that is easiest to fly rather than one that looks good. One that looks good will more than likely be very complex, and therefore will be hard to get the hang of. Such RC RTF planes are reserved for experts, and as you become more adept at flying your RC RTF plane you will be able to move into that type of aircraft.

So why exactly is it a bad idea to start out complicated? Some people will no doubt say: “Well I’ll just figure it out”. That may be true, and you may just figure it out, but there is a high probability that you’ll end up crashing your RC RTF and you need to be able to repair it. Common sense tells us that the more complicated an RC plane is, the more expensive it’s going to be to repair it. This in mind, make sure that you choose a plane that is going to be easy and inexpensive to repair.

When you decide to go out and give your RC RTF a try, then you should take it to a public park. You’re going to want to make sure that there is no one else flying there, or at least not in the immediate area because the frequencies could begin to conflict and cause some serious issues. One common issue would be the plane flying off into the distance never to be seen again, and if you find that this happens then you are going to have to pay for the damages, especially if it happens to the other modeler.

You also need to make sure that you follow all local regulations. This means making sure that you are allowed to fly your RC RTF in a given area. Not everyone enjoys the lovely sound of an RC RTF, so make sure that you won’t get in trouble for taking flight in any certain area.

Those are a few tips for beginners in the RC arena. There are of course other things that you will need to do, and you will discover them as you go along. So go ahead and give RC planes a try, there’s no doubt that you’ll have fun!

What electronics are needed to make a RC plane?

Posted by admin

Hey i was wondering what electronics are needed to get a RC electric plane up and running as far as the servos and receivers and stuff. I just have no idea what i need to get my plane running. Thanks in advance.

It varies on the plane. But hobby-grade wise… my plane needs a motor, 3 servos, 1 receiver. Of course, you also need the airplane kit itself. Pretty simple. Other planes should be very similar to this.

Oh yes, you also need the battery.

eBay / Paypal dispute.?

i bought a rc helicopter from a seller and it doesn’t work. the seller claims that since i pluged the tranmitter in an outlet it malfunction. he states that the transmitter should only be plugged in the outlet if being charged but the manual doesn’t state that and i thought that it was a seconday way for me to power up my transmitter (without the battery). he also sent me a boot leg CD (simulator for the rc plane) instead of an original.
i just filled a claim with paypal.
most of the emails we exchanged were not on paypal dispute case but they were on ebay.
do you think i will get my money back?
how can i post those emails from ebay to paypal?
i havne’t ‘escated’ the issue yet with paypal. but i will soon.
if you need more info let me know and i will edit this post.
thanks for reading this long detail.

a word from the wise, i have been using e-bay for years, if this person sold you bootleg software thats illegal!!! and imediate action should be taken if you have done all the communicating with the other party and they refuse to resolve this i suggest Escalating this case. you have a good chance of getting your cash back, very good chance the faster you act!!!! but only if you have done all you could do with the other party(as far as communicatin). when a purchase is made on ebay in theory both parties are signing a contract, if the other party has breached that contract you have the right to request a refund, if worse comes to worse e-bay can ban or scar there reputation. i know your pain, ive been there

what type of electric rc airplanes are available and which one to buy for a start?

Electric rc airplanes come in different shapes and sizes like powered sailplanes, aerobatic models, scale models and ducted fan type. The types of electric rc airplanes with respect to option given for maneuvers with respect to radio controls called channels, more channels more options you have to maneuver your electric rc airplane. Check this link for more detail:
http://rcjet.blogspot.com/2009/03/electric-rc-airplane-your-first-option.html

First one 2 channel electric rc airplane, simple and easy, only yaw and pitch controls are available with 2 channel electric rc airplane. This one is great for very initial electric rc flight as 2channel electric rc airplane comes really cheap. Then we have 3 channel electric rc airplane, which gives you controls over yaw, pitch and altitude of your electric rc airplane. The 3 channel electric rc airplane is good for occasional flyer who wants a better control over their electric rc airplane and still keep a not very heavy load on the pocket. Well the 4 channels electric rc airplane is what a real enthusiast require, this one offers full control over the yaw, pitch, bank and throttle acceleration.
I will suggest you to go for a 2 or 3 channel piece to test the waters.

Want to buy my first R/C Airplane?

I am an absolute beginner in the RC model world, and while I have at times flown real aircraft have no idea how to fly a RC model. I am looking to buy a model aircraft,

I need advice on a beginners model perhaps a powered glider? To learn on I would like it to be easy to build/fly but not to look like a child’s toy (a bit of an ego thing). If you can think of any RTF or ARTF KIT’s (including all the extras i’l need) you have that meet my spec.

BIG THANK YOU

Contact your local RC club. These people are friendly and love to help new comers. They would guide you, teach you and help you out in the beginning stages.

Any ARTF or RTF kit would be great. Go for a high wing model with a span of 48"-60" with .19-.40 motor and a 4 channel radio. This will take you to your intermediate stages when you can convert to a low winger. The radio would be good for many many years.

Good luck and happy landings.
